Make sure that your dog doesn't get too much to eat, but enough to make sure he doesn't spend his life attempting to find food. The dog should get plenty of exercise, especially puppies. I good crisp walk every two days is sufficient for the toy breeds (along with bathroom trips around three time a day), while the bigger dogs may need to get out for long walks twice a day. Check in with vet to make sure he doesn't have heartworm or ringworm or anything like that. When you're training your dog, make him do the trick (for instance, to make him shake, put his paw up) until he gets it. After he has learned a trick, if he doesn't do it, make him do it to make sure he knows your in charge.
